The Birth of Bijoux Chics Jewellery: A Journey of Art and Passion
In 2008, while immersed in the structured world of law—where creativity often felt like a distant dream—I stumbled upon an outlet that would forever change my life: a night course in jewellery making at a local school. From the very first moment I held a pair of pliers, I felt an electrifying connection. That single class ignited a spark, and soon after, I was diving into more night courses at various colleges and embarking on a six-month Saturday entrepreneurship program. I even joined the Toronto Bead Society, surrounding myself with like-minded creators and endless inspiration.
But this wasn’t entirely unfamiliar territory. Growing up in the artistic haven of a southern suburb of Paris, France, I was surrounded by creativity. My mother, a multi-skilled artist for over 20 years, filled our home with the beauty of handcrafted pieces, instilling in me a love for artistry from an early age.
My first foray into jewellery design involved gemstones, crystal, glass, pearls, and those intricate components known as findings and chains. With this newfound inventory, I honed my signature style: classic, simple elegance in gems. But the journey didn’t stop there.
Through collaborations and exchanges with fellow artists, I was introduced to a spectrum of jewellery techniques—soutache, wirework, resin, and beyond. In 2017, I decided to challenge myself further, delving into the world of metalwork. It quickly became my medium of choice, blending seamlessly with my stones, crystals, and pearls. Metal added depth and texture, allowing me to push the boundaries of my designs. My style evolved to become classic, simple elegance in gems and metals.
Nature, symbols, and the timeless elegance of mid-20th century jewellery inspire my creations, with a twist that reflects my personal design aesthetic. Among my favorites are turquoise, amethyst, malachite, and jasper, which I often pair with copper, and sterling silver. I draw endless admiration from legendary metal artist Alexander Calder (1898–1976), whose work continually fuels my creativity.
Every day, I strive to sharpen my skills, embrace new challenges, and enjoy the journey of creation. My website showcases intricate wirework, stunning metal techniques like riveting and chain mail, and designs full of coiling and wrapping mastery.
At Bijoux Chics Jewellery, my mission is simple yet profound: to craft unique, high-quality jewellery that brings joy, beauty, and purpose to others.
