Bijoux Chics Jewellery: My Journey
Back in 2008, I was working in the structured world of law, where there wasn’t much room for creativity. I decided to take a night class in jewellery making at a local school, and it was a moment that changed my life. The first time I picked up a pair of pliers, something just clicked. That little spark turned into a fire, and before I knew it, I signed up for more night courses, attended a Saturday entrepreneurship program, and joined the Toronto Bead Society. I found myself surrounded by creative minds and endless inspiration—it felt like I had finally found my place.
But in a way, this wasn’t entirely new to me. I grew up just outside of Paris, in a home that was bursting with art and creativity. My mother was a multi-skilled artist for over 20 years, so I spent my childhood watching her turn raw materials into something beautiful. Her passion left its mark on me.
When I started designing jewellery, I worked with gemstones, crystals, glass, and pearls. I loved creating pieces that felt timeless and elegant. But as I connected with other artists, I was introduced to all kinds of new techniques, like soutache, wirework, and resin. Then, in 2017, I took on a new challenge—metalwork. It quickly became my favorite medium. Mixing metal with stones, crystals, and pearls opened up so many possibilities for my designs. It allowed me to create pieces that felt both simple and striking.
My work is inspired by nature, symbols, and the elegance of mid-20th-century jewellery. I love working with stones like turquoise, amethyst, malachite, and jasper, and pairing them with copper or sterling silver. One of my biggest inspirations is Alexander Calder, a legendary metal artist whose creativity never fails to amaze me.
Every day, I’m learning something new, pushing myself to try new techniques, and just enjoying the process of creating. At Bijoux Chics Jewellery, my goal is simple: to make unique, high-quality jewellery that brings a little bit of beauty and happiness into people’s lives.
